How to sow a tray of punnets - Method 2 (Wet seeds onto Dry Coir)

Before sowing Method 2 seeds, you must prime the seeds 24 hours in advance (see How to Prime Seeds).

Step 1: Prepare the punnets

Take the growing tray from the cabinet and wash with hot water. 

Once dry, put the punnets in the tray making sure each punnet has a paper liner in the bottom. 

Put in a level scoop or empty a bag of base coir/perlite mix (the larger bags) into the punnet. 

Tap the punnet side-to-side to level the coir.

Step 2: Sow the seeds

Divide the primed seeds equally between the punnets. If you have primed enough seed for 8 punnets then put an eighth into each punnet.

Spoon the primed seeds into each punnet. 

Use a table fork to evenly spread the seeds out. (This is important or they will grow in a clump)

Step 3: Add topping coir 

Put a SMALL heaped scoop of topping coir onto the seeds in the middle of each punnet. 

Then gently spread out the topping coir with your fingers, so it covers all the seeds. 

DO NOT PRESS IT DOWN. 

Make sure you can’t see any seeds, the topping has to cover all the seeds. 

Step 4: Transfer to cabinet

The tray is now ready. 

DO NOT COVER WITH CLING FILM FOR METHOD 2 CROPS.

Place the tray back in the cabinet ensuring it is properly clicked in.

Step 5: Complete the sow tray task

In the Evogro app, complete the Sow Tray task, so the system starts the germination phase.
